The objective of American Kestrel Company, LLC  is to provide consulting services to help government and commercial customers solve challenging problems in the area of aviation safety, and to transition the resulting technologies into successful certified products. American Kestrel has unique experience in the development of aircraft ice protection technologies and turning them into certified systems. In support of your technology development program we can provide engineering and certification support for aircraft integration, system level design and analysis, system testing and evaluation, environmental testing (RTCA Do160), icing wind tunnel testing, ground testing, ice shape flight testing, dry air system testing, icing tanker testing, and natural icing flight testing. American Kestrel has an FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER), Mechanical Systems, Powerplant, and Flight Test Engineer specializing in ice protection and inflight icing on staff.

On 6/11/2014 American Kestrel has completed a new distribution license from NASA Glenn. This agreement allows international distribution of LEWICE version 3.2.2. American Kestrel's LEWINT combines the ice accretion code LEWICE version 3.2.2 with American Kestrel's user interface, plotting, and icing analysis tools to produce an integrated 2D ice accretion package. More information is available here. If you would like to be added to a mailing list to recieve future information about LEWICE please contact LEWINT@AmericanKestrelCo.com

LEWICE version 3.2.2 is made available under a copyright license from the U.S. Government, National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA.

Download LEWINT version1.04 - full release is now available, this version includes a much expanded thermal analysis capability, greater use of external CFD files, and resolving various bugs.

Looking to find a DER use the Designee Locator.
From the pulldown menu select DER, then select “location search.”
Down at the bottom you will see different types of DERs, select what you need then search.

The above picture was taken at the Mt. Washington Observatory. Information about the observatory can be found at http://www.mountwashington.org. The Mount Washington Observatory is a private, non-profit, membership organization created to:
  1. Observe and record the extreme weather conditions of Mount Washington.
  2. Conduct scientific research at that location.
  3. Devise educational programs that foster the appreciation of the science, history and natural history of the White Mountains.
  4. Promote public safety in the White Mountains.
Over the years a substantial amount of work has been performed at the observatory that is directly aimed at or applicable to aircraft icing, aviation weather forecasting, sensor development and aviation safety. The top picture is a composite photograph taken from the top of Mt. Washington.
